Breakfast Scene - The Miracle Worker (1962)

Has anyone in Blogger Land seen the original Miracle Worker made in 1962?
For those who have not it's briefly about the true story of Helen Keller, who was born deaf, dumb and blind.
This particular scene is very powerful, sad and amusing all at the same time.  Actress Anne Bancroft plays the women bought into the family to try and help "Helen" and to teach her to understand how to "see" and "talk" and "hear".  Until help arrived Helen was encouraged to "do her own thing" especially at meal times when she was allowed to eat from other peoples plates and always with her hands.

This scene is just over 8 minutes long and is considered to be the best in the film.  For some it may be difficult to view as the "hired help" tries to train Helen to eat properly.  It descends into a battle of wills and the actors must have been exhausted after the scene was finished.  Those who have seen the entire film will know that it does have a happy ending - and not a dry eye in the house.

Any adversity can be overcome with the right help
